Sculpture incorporating squares decorated by homeschooled students

I’ve worked with students in many different schools throughout Iowa, and recently I was in Ellsworth for a workshop with home-schooled students! The event was arranged by Joyce Matters, one of the Home School Assistance Program teachers with South Hamilton Community School District. All ages were represented, from three years old to high school age. I gave a presentation on creativity and art and talked about Kids’ Heart of Iowa Radio.

Then each student made me a painted square, and I’ve applied some of them to this figure. They were not assigned a particular subject, but looking at the squares, you can see themes of peace, family, and faith. I have additional squares that I’ll use to make a “hat” for the girl. “Thank you” to the Home School Assistance Program for the opportunity to create with this group!
