FALL 2010 Watercolor with Gwen

Gwen Foster – Watercolor

Three Monday classes – Sept. 13th, 20th, and 27th from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. $25 per class.Pre-registration is not necessary, just show up. If you have questions regarding equipment or reference material, call Gwen at 515-382-1686.

We will explore two ways to approach under-painting. Our subjects will be a tractor and sunflowers, a close up of not more than three flowers. These should be easy photos to take this time of year. Older tractors are more interesting, but anything handy will do. Your photo could be a close up of an interesting part of the tractor rather than the whole thing. Remember to consider interesting value changes in light and shadow.

I will bring extra references in case you need one or I recommend that you bring your own photographs. Finding a particular subject to photograph or sketch for a painting can be challenging and brings some emotional attachment, which translates to better paintings.

FALL 2010 REPURPOSED JEWELRY CLASS

Sarah Dorn – Repurposed Jewelry

Repurposed Jewelry will be September 25 from 10-12. Students should bring images from magazines, photographs, etc that they will be cutting up; the best size is about 2″x2″. The pendant will be made using pieces of plexiglass that Jo cuts. Students will have a completed necklace, a one-of-a-kind creation, to take home at the end of class. It is open to all skill levels. Cost: $30, ($25 for the class and $5 for supplies.) To register or get info: email Sarah at mamapeacock@hotmail.com

Bio: Sarah is a blessed stay-at-home mom, spending my days with my 2 munchkins. Though finger paint and play dough are very fun…I needed some Mama time…an outlet for my creativity and something of my own. Mama Peacock LLC was born from that need.

So, why jewelry and how did I get started? Well, I have always loved jewelry and the self-expression it allows. I like to re-purpose items when possible, especially vintage items. Many of my bottle caps and dominoes are vintage finds from various places. The scrabble tiles I use are from a vintage game given to me by my sweet neighbor lady growing up.

I truly believe beauty radiates from the inside out-so buy a piece of Mama Peacock to decorate your beautiful self or home…and then STRUT YOUR STUFF!!

Another New Artist Teaching at The Left Bank Studio

Jane Haahr was raised on a family farm in southwest Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Foreign Languages (French and Spanish). She taught French in Mason City, Iowa, then worked for 33 years in Export Management for companies manufacturing and marketing vaccines and pharmaceuticals for animals. Recently retired, Jane has combined her lifelong interests in sewing and environmental issues in her business called Haahr Inspirations. She creates large tote bags from sturdy fabrics that are colorful, playful, practical and even elegant. The bags have handles and removable hardboard bottoms. Each comes with a hangtag telling the bag’s new owner about the benefits of using eco-friendly fabric (vs. “paper or plastic”).

(hangtag attached to each bag)
Hello, nice person!

I’m your eco-friendly fabric shopping bag. Since I am reusable, I won’t end up in a landfill or scattered across the landscape, unlike those pesky paper and plastic bags. Please take me with you when you to go the store and ask the clerk to use me instead of using a paper bag that was made by cutting down trees or a plastic bag that increases our carbon footprint. You protect the environment and I get to be a star! I’m a handmade original, made just for you by someone who cares deeply about doing her part to help keep our planet healthy.
Sincerely, Your New Bag

You can fill out a membership form while you are visiting the booth. Drop by and see us. We’ll do our best to show you how you can unleash your creative self with watercolor!
